Dehydroacetic acid is used as stabilizer for cosmetic and pharmaceutical products due to its fungicide and bactericide activity, as additive for PVC-stabilizers and for the syntheses of veterinary medicines.
Deoxyacetic acid is a broad-spectrum feed preservative that can inhibit the growth of mold, yeast and bacteria. The antibacterial effect is basically not affected by pH, but the antiseptic effect is best under neutral conditions. Also used as a food preservative.
